Chamber Updates
Over a five-year period, Michele Beach- Owner of Ocean Reef UPS Store, has been a dedicated member of our Chamber Board and our Vice President since 2014. Not only has Michele volunteered much of her time but often her valuable services to improve our organization. Michele's contributions on our board have helped our Chamber grow into what it is today.  We are so grateful for her dedication, and it's been clear that her shoes will be difficult to fill as she stepped down from her position on the Chamber Board.

Today, we are thrilled to announce Margie Smith will be taking over the role of Vice President of the Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce. Margie has been a member of our Chamber since 2010, originally through her role as CEO of the United Way of the Florida Keys. Margie was instrumental in transforming our golf tournament into a charitable endeavor which has provided funds to United Way of the Florida Keys, the Ocean Reef Foundation Wounded Warrior Fund, and most recently, the Ocean Reef Chamber Scholarship Fund. Margie joined the Ocean Reef Chamber Board of Directors in 2015 as a Business Development Officer for CenterState Bank. We look forward to Margie's continued involvement in our Chamber as Vice President and the unique set of qualifications and experience she brings. Please join us in congratulating and welcoming her to her new role! 
Margie Smith 
      Originally from Chicago, Margie moved to the Keys in 2005 from Washington DC after a 14-year career in Aviation ranging from Aircraft Mechanic (Palwaukee) to Airport Manager (Schaumburg Regional) to U.S. Congressional Commission Staffer and culminating in representing the nation's public airports before the federal government as Director of Regulatory Affairs for American Assoc. of Airport Executives. Her advocacy and organizational reform continued as the CEO of United Way of the Florida Keys for five years. Where she turned around this local countywide non-profit, nearly doubling its revenue before joining her husband Cale Smith's firm Islamorada Investment Management, doing Business Development. Margie has been a Business Development Officer for CenterState Bank (formerly Community Bank) since 2015. A White House Fellowship Finalist in 2001, she holds a Masters in Public Administration and several aviation certifications. A former BPW, and mother of two, she's now an Ocean Reef Chamber Board member, soccer coach, swimming official and sits on the MC Parks and Recreation and Mote Marine Lab Advisory Board.

 joined ORC in 2014 after spending 5 years as a Professor of English Language at Shanxi University in the People's Republic of China. During that time, he received a Master's Degree in Mandarin, won several Mandarin speech competitions, and hosted his very own travel TV show on CCTV4. Coupled with his tenure as a server at a premier steakhouse in North Carolina, Douglas' move from educator to hospitality trainer was a seamless transition and the perfect opportunity to engage in new and exciting challenges.

Position Title: Development Coordinator/Volunteer Coordinator
Overview: The Development/Volunteer Coordinator oversees and coordinates all fundraising events and volunteer activity for assigned team/s. This position coordinates the recruitment, training, placement and retention of volunteers to integrate volunteers throughout the assigned team and area. Additionally, this position is responsible and accountable for implementing and managing new and existing annual fundraising events in addition to serving as the liaison for all third-party fundraising events throughout the service area. Islamorada Investment Management
Islamorada Investment Management is seeking an individual with or pursuing a degree in finance, economics, business or similar certifications, and/or has relevant financial service and office management experience. This person will report to the firm's managing partner and support our clients, maintain important records, assist our compliance officer, manage marketing efforts and help grow our firm through an obsessive focus on clients and operational excellence.
This person will be expected to staff our new office at MM 81.8 from 10:00am to 3:00pm, Mondays through Fridays. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
Key Capabilities
Candidates for this position will be asked to demonstrate their capabilities and qualifications in three main areas:
1. Client Support - focus on excellent service and communication;
2. Office Operations - focus on organizing records, privacy and compliance activities;
3. Professional Promotion Activities - focus on written communications and coordinating efforts in marketing, public relations and advertising - both traditional and online.
            Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance or Business.
Previous experience in financial services industry and/or small business environment.
Excellent client communications skills on phone, email and in-person.
Marketing training and public relations experience is a plus.
Must be a full-time resident of the Upper Keys; no relocation assistance will be provided.
High attention to detail is mandatory.
Initiative and responsibility. Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality. 
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Pleasant and positive demeanor.
Competency in Microsoft Office - i.e. Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
Ability to work in WordPress and a basic familiarity with HTML.
Familiarity or experience creating online leads/offers, sales and related opt-in pages and managing an email distribution service is preferred.
The desire and stamina to help grow a small business and provide professional support, while helping clients achieve their financial goals.
