The Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome Sam Steele as the featured speaker at our upcoming April luncheon—an opportunity for Ocean Reef members to gain insight into the work of one of Monroe County’s key constitutional offices.
Elected in 2020 at the age of 33, Steele became the youngest Tax Collector in Monroe County history and is currently the youngest sitting Tax Collector in the State of Florida. Reelected unopposed, he began his second four-year term in January 2025. A Miami native, Steele earned his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and previously worked as a commercial real estate appraiser with Cushman & Wakefield in Boca Raton.
In addition to leading the Monroe County Tax Collector’s Office, Steele has served on the Board of the Florida Tax Collectors Association and currently serves as State Chair of the Public Records Management Coalition, where he plays an active role in legislative advocacy and statewide policy discussions.
During his presentation, Steele will offer Ocean Reef residents and business leaders a clear overview of the responsibilities of the Tax Collector’s office and the many services it provides—from property tax collection and driver license services to motor vehicle registrations, business tax receipts, and public records management. His discussion will also highlight how the office works to promote efficiency, transparency, and customer service for Monroe County residents and businesses.
For Ocean Reef Club members, this presentation offers a valuable opportunity to better understand the systems that support our local economy, community services, and day-to-day transactions throughout the Keys.
